Livox AVIA 905 nm LiDAR for 3D Mapping and Robotics

2.098,95 €

Livox AVIA is a compact 905 nm 3D LiDAR for aerial surveying, mobile mapping and robotics perception. A 498 g body, built-in BMI088 IMU and selectable repetitive or non-repetitive scanning help engineers balance payload, scene coverage and point-cloud density. Non-repetitive scanning covers 70.4° horizontally × 77.2° vertically, while triple-return output reaches 720,000 points/s. The published range is 320 m at 80% reflectivity under 100 klx, increasing to 450 m at 80% reflectivity under 0 klx; target reflectivity and lighting therefore matter when planning a survey.

Features

  • Compact surveying payload - The 91 × 61.2 × 64.8 mm sensor weighs 498 g without cables, leaving integration space for a computer, mounting hardware and positioning equipment.
  • Condition-specific long range - Under 100 klx, AVIA specifies 190 m at 10%, 230 m at 20% and 320 m at 80% reflectivity. The 450 m figure applies to an 80% target under 0 klx.
  • Wide non-repetitive field of view - A 70.4° × 77.2° viewing envelope accumulates spatial coverage over time for three-dimensional scene capture.
  • Repetitive line scanning - The 70.4° × 4.5° mode concentrates coverage into a narrow vertical band for suitable survey paths and inspection geometry.
  • Selectable return modes - First or strongest return provides 240,000 points/s; dual return provides 480,000 points/s; triple return provides 720,000 points/s for layered scenes such as vegetation.
  • Measured ranging precision - Livox specifies 2 cm range precision at 1 sigma at 20 m, tested with an 80% reflector at 25°C, and angular precision below 0.05°.
  • Integrated inertial measurements - The BMI088 supplies angular-velocity and acceleration measurements for host-side motion compensation and sensor-fusion development.
  • Ethernet and timing - A 100 Mbps data interface supports PTPv2, PPS and GPS timing using PPS plus UTC; specified data latency is no more than 2 ms.
  • Outdoor sensor protection - The AVIA sensor is IP67, excluding Converter 2.0 and cables, with an operating range of -20°C to 65°C and Class 1 laser safety.
  • Mode-dependent power - Typical operation uses 8 W in non-repetitive mode or 9 W in repetitive mode; startup power is 16 W.

More Details about Livox AVIA

Long Detection Range

AVIA detection distance varies with illumination and reflectivity. At 80% reflectivity, Livox specifies 320 m under 100 klx and 450 m under 0 klx. A 10% target is specified at 190 m in both conditions. These values help distinguish low-light surveying of reflective surfaces from daylight sensing of darker objects; they are not a promise that every target is detectable at the maximum range.

Livox AVIA Long Detection Range

Dual‑Scanning Mode

Repetitive and non-repetitive scanning change the distribution of samples rather than the model of sensor. First or strongest return produces 240,000 points/s, with higher output rates when additional echoes are enabled. Choose the scan pattern for scene geometry and the return mode for the surfaces that need to be represented.

Non‑Repetitive Circular Scanning

Non-repetitive scanning fills more of the 70.4° × 77.2° FOV as the integration period increases. This is useful for mapping static structures and developing mobile-robot perception. On moving platforms, use synchronized motion information and appropriate registration to avoid treating points measured at different poses as one instantaneous frame.

Livox AVIA Non‑Repetitive Circular Scanning

Repetitive Line Scanning

Repetitive scanning uses a 70.4° × 4.5° FOV with a consistent line-oriented distribution. It is useful when a vehicle or airborne platform sweeps the narrow sensing band across fields, hillsides, forest corridors or construction areas. Coverage outside that band must come from platform motion or additional sensors.

Light, Compact and Easily Integrated

Plan mounting and cable clearance around the 91 × 61.2 × 64.8 mm housing and keep the optical window unobstructed. The sensor input is 10-15 V DC; using Livox Converter 2.0 allows a 9-30 V DC external supply. The converter and cables are not covered by the sensor IP67 rating, so outdoor installations need appropriate protection for the complete connection path.

Applications

Power Line Surveying and Mapping

Livox AVIA supports power-line point-cloud acquisition where both corridor coverage and thin-object detail are important. Its narrow horizontal beam divergence helps resolve wire geometry, while repetitive scanning can concentrate samples along a planned survey strip. Select flight speed, sensor orientation and accumulation time together; extracting conductors and measuring clearances requires calibrated positioning and host-side processing.

Livox AVIA Power Line Surveying and Mapping

Forestry Surveying and Mapping

Triple-return acquisition can record multiple echoes from vegetation and other layered surfaces, giving forestry workflows more information about canopy structure and visible terrain. The non-repetitive scan covers a broad vertical area as points accumulate. Ground-point recovery still depends on canopy density, viewing geometry and processing, so triple returns should not be interpreted as guaranteed penetration through all foliage.

Livox AVIA Forestry Surveying and Mapping

Mobile Surveying and Mapping

At 498 g without cables, AVIA fits mobile mapping payloads where mass and installation space are constrained. Its BMI088 angular-velocity and acceleration measurements can be combined with point-cloud timestamps in motion-compensation and LiDAR-inertial workflows. A host computer, suitable mapping software and sensor calibration are required to turn the measurements into a registered map.

Livox AVIA Mobile Surveying and Mapping

Smart Cities

The 70.4° × 77.2° non-repetitive FOV supports fixed-site scene capture for infrastructure digitization and spatial monitoring. Increasing accumulation time adds coverage for static structures; shorter windows are more appropriate when tracking changing scenes. Multiple sensors or mounting positions may be needed where buildings, vegetation or equipment obstruct the line of sight.

FAQ

How does AVIA differ from AVIA2?

AVIA is a 905 nm, 498 g mapping LiDAR using the original Livox SDK. AVIA2 is a 1535 nm industrial LiDAR with Normal and Focus modes, a larger with-fan body and the SDK2 software family. Match the exact sensor, wiring and software to the integration.

Which AVIA scanning mode should I choose?

Non-repetitive mode provides a 70.4 by 77.2 degree FOV for wider spatial coverage. Repetitive mode provides a 70.4 by 4.5 degree band for line-oriented acquisition. Platform motion, scene geometry and accumulation time determine which is more useful.

Does AVIA always detect objects at 450 m?

No. The 450 m specification applies to an 80% reflectivity target under 0 klx. At 100 klx, the corresponding 80% target range is 320 m, while the 10% target range is 190 m.

How many points per second does AVIA output?

First or strongest return outputs 240,000 points/s. Dual return outputs 480,000 points/s and triple return outputs 720,000 points/s. These are return-mode point rates, not a fixed number of scan channels.

What does the built-in IMU provide?

The BMI088 provides angular-velocity and acceleration measurements. Host-side software can use these with synchronized LiDAR data for motion compensation and sensor fusion; the IMU alone does not supply a finished map or navigation solution.

What is the specified ranging precision?

Livox specifies 2 cm range precision at 1 sigma at 20 m using an 80% reflector at 25 degrees C. This is a test-condition precision figure, not a guarantee of 2 cm map accuracy at all distances.

Which software is used with AVIA?

Use the original Livox SDK and the AVIA-compatible Livox Viewer from the official download center. The SDK provides development interfaces for receiving LiDAR data and controlling supported functions.

How is AVIA powered and synchronized?

The sensor accepts 10-15 V DC, or 9-30 V DC through Converter 2.0. Startup power is 16 W. The Ethernet interface supports PTPv2, PPS and GPS timing using PPS plus UTC.

What does the IP67 rating cover?

IP67 applies to the AVIA sensor, not Converter 2.0 or its cables. The specified operating range is -20 to 65 degrees C. Protect connections and maintain the installation conditions described in the manual.

What is included with Livox-AVIA?

The package includes one AVIA, one Converter 2.0, one optical-window cleaning cloth, one L-shape hex screwdriver, two screws packages and one cables package. The detailed contents and cable types are listed in Packing List.
